Clare,

With reference to the attachment (not yet received by post) I can comment as follows:

1.       The new external door into the corridor will be accessible to Disable users as will be the door from the existing corridor into the new ICT Room.

2.       The amount of inert material (i.e. spoil from the works) will be approx. 25-30m³ Top Soil and approx. 30m³ of sub-soil and we envisaged this would be disposed of where possible to their existing playing fields being evenly distributed around the site where access allows otherwise it will be used to create mounds where the extension is to be built adjacent to the car parking area. The mound will therefore prevent cars mounting the kerbs and driving on to the grassed areas. The mounds will vary in width and height but would be approx.  1200 – 1500mm wide and up to 600mm high and grassed, this should therefore re-use the spoil created but any remaining spoil would be taken to a licensed tip. One problem that may occur is that part of the School I believe is to be used as housing so the proposed areas to the playing fields may not be an option so the alternative in front of the parking bays adjacent to the extension would be the alternative.

3.       I have spoken to the School who have informed us that the ICT Room will be used during the School day (Monday – Friday) as an additional teaching facility that allows a single Classroom to be taught in one room and all pupils having individual computers or 2 pupils per computer allowing up to 35 pupils plus teacher. The School would also offer ‘after school clubs’ the use of the ICT Room Monday – Friday up to 6.00pm each night. Any use at the weekends will be only very occasionally and be on a Saturday from 9am – 2pm. Parking out of School hours would be to the main front car park. Any out of school hours would also be in line with the previously agreed opening hours that they are allowed under their existing licence.

4.       With regard to security the footpath between the ICT Room and Gym needs to be left so there is access into the corridor to the ICT Room without going through the main school for after school clubs and therefore creating a security problem of children being inside the school building out of normal school hours with no teachers around etc.

I have copied this to both Roy Bellingham at the School and Alan in our office. If there are any other issues please let me know.

With regards,    Rob.

I will await your response. In view of the previous vandalism on this site, I am awaiting the views of the Crime Prevention Officer regarding this planning applicatioClare Farrands

Clare,

Further to our conversation I would like to confirm that when we come to design the drainage we will try and amend the location of the proposed downpipes so that they are located between the ICT Room and Gym so that there is not a problem in the future of having to relocate the downpipes as and when the Main Hall is built and will also try to relocate the existing man whole located adjacent to the Main Hall (if possible).

With regards to Building Regulations there will be no problems with the Main Hall being built on afterwards although as mentioned it would have be better for the Main Hall to be built first and the ICT Room joined on afterwards but due to financial constraints the School has this is not possible.

With regards,    Rob.

Dear Rob, I have examined the plans approved under planning permission LW/2747/CC for the extension to the sports hall and note the nsouthern wall of the proposed ICT centre will have to form the northern wall of the sports hall extension, should nit be built. Would you please confirm this is acceptable in constructional terms and meets all the current Building Regulation requirements.

Clare,

If there are any issues over the proposed design of the new ICT Room please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss.

I can also confirm that we have taken into account the possible extension to the Main Hall when designing the new ICT Room so that this can be built alongside when funds are available.

If there are any queries you may have please feel free to contact me at any time.

With regards,    Rob.

Dear Clare,

I understand there is a query concerning the Tideway planning application for the ICT extension.

It remains the aspiration of the school to also build the Games Hall extension for which permission was granted about 12 months ago.Although it is not possible to identify the funding at the moment, and increased ICT provision is a priority in a technology specialist school, Governors have made their determination to complete the project very clear.

When the ICT extension was considered it was designed so that it will not exceed the length of the Games Hall and will be screened by the extended Games Hall from the housing to the NW of the school. The architect was the same for both projects and building the ICT unit in a way that still permitted the Games Hall extension was understood and discussed.

I have copied Rob Beasey of the Hamson Partnership into this email as he may wish to advise you of more technical detail about the interface - or you may wish to contact him.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Roy Bellingham,

Business Manager,

Tideway School.
