REF PLANNING APPLICATION WD/782/CM

Dear Katie

We would like to register our objection to the continued use and expansion of the KPS Recycling site situated opposite  our house.

We have lived at this address for 12 years and during this time the site has expanded beyond all recognition. Please look at the attached Google Earth image - the site spreads over approx 9 acres. It is a real eyesore and looks like a council waste site,  in what was one a pretty part of the farming countryside.

The applicant has a history of breaking the planning rules regarding the number of vehicles in and out of the site, then subsequently applying for permission to regularise those breaches.  The amount of heavy goods vehicles coming and going has completely changed the area, and its' character to its' detriment.

All of the heavy goods vehicles access the site from the A26 which means they all come past our boundary. The road service wears very unevenly because of the weight. The access onto the A26 is completely unsuitable for large vehicles that are exiting to go north on the A26, they have to go onto the opposite side of the road to get out.

There is a considerable smell from KPS site, on a regular basis and a constant noise.  The new plans include moving some operations closer to our property, so increasing the noise and smell to me.  Worryingly, we have had rat infestations and problems with flies. These have both increased and appear to correlate with the increase of the operations at KPS.

Paul Smythe owns both the property opposite the site, Honeypot Nursery and the house at the bottom of my drive, Oak Lodge. This decreases the likelihood of complaints from local residents, such as my wife and me. Unfortunately, as the owner of KPS owns the surrounding property we feel somewhat powerless in this situation.

We have been very tolerant over the years as we are firm believers in green recycling. Unfortunately,  we now need to sell our house and are finding it very difficult due largely to the scale of the operation at KPS. When you look on Google Earth you can see why it would put people off.  Our property has been considerably devalued by the continued expansion of this site.

We're rather curious that this business is considered acceptable in this area.  It has no ties to agriculture or the countryside; it is just another ever expanding business that the residents have to tolerate because of the “green label”.

Yours faithfully

Description: The continued use of land for green waste composting and wood waste processing, including an increased through-put for up to 10,000 tonnes per annum of waste wood and the relocation of the waste wood processing area including an extension to the existing storage building and yard area, the replacement and relocation of the existing overflow pond (no.3) with a reed bed system and the repositioning of the earth bunds at the southern and eastern boundaries of the site.
Comments: I would object to this planning application strongly. The boundaries are moving closer to our property. We have already seen a massive increase in the development of this site over the last 10 years. This will increase traffic and noise. Its not suitable for the area , its become a huge industrial setup fsr removed from the original green recycling centre. We woukd love to sell up and get away from it , but your leniancy with this business over the years has made our house almost unsaleable. The road as it joins the A26 is not suitable for large trucks turning north and causes msny problems. The heavy trucks cause uneven wear on the approach to the site and problems for the buses and cars as the road is not wide enough. Please do not grant this business anymore expansion , I think we have had our share of noise and smell, it dominates what was a beautiful part of the country.
