Expertise

As previously mentioned I have worked in various settings and amassed a great del of experience working with different people. However my passion now lies in supporting people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and their carers. Coupled with supporting my grandfather in recent years, I have most recently been working in a dementia day care centre, and am currently working in a care home on the Dementia unit. This has allowed me to build a greater depth of knowledge around Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Experience

Throughout my working career I have worked in different care environments, and with many different types of people and conditions. These include hospital settings, care homes and homes for challenging behaviour, to name a few. My working experience started in a nursing home in Polegate at the age of just 16 where I found that I had the care and compassion to make a difference to those finding themselves in need of care. I continued to work in the industry, very passionately, for the next 5 years. After a break from the care industry I returned after the personal experience I had with my grandfather. In the past 6-7 years I found myself needing to support my grandmother, to care for my grandfather who had been suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. During this time I realised that the support I was giving was not only for him, but also for her. This experience has made me incredibly passionate about supporting those who suffer with Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia, and those that look after friends/family that are suffering with this horrible disease. This was backed up with my experience gained working in a dementia day care centre that also provided respite care for those that needed it.
