Expertise

I am experienced in supporting Adults with Learning Disability and/or Autism and have a special interest in working with people towards increasing their skills so they can achieve as much as possible. I have expertise in the area of support planning and using accessible information and development plans that clients can engage with. I have considerable experience with individuals living and managing Type 1 and 2 diabetes and people with Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism and Asperger’s. I communicate well both with clients and professionals. I am self motivated, enthusiastic and proactive and able to motivate the clients I work with.

Experience

I have 25 years of experience working successfully in social care. I can step up to the challenges and effectively deal with the unexpected, ensuring that the level of care and support I provide remains high. I am patient, calm and friendly and have a cheerful demeanour that helps to put people at their ease and to feel comfortable with me. I take time to listen and treat everybody with respect and kindness and I ensure that I provide support in a way that the client has the choice and control. I am fully aware of the challenges and difficulties people can experience in their lives and I work hard to ensure that their views are listened to and that I advocate for their aims and wishes.

Background

I have worked in the social care sector for many years and have been both care worker and manager. During this time I have supported a wide range of people which included elderly clients and clients with physical, sensory and/or learning disability. For the last 15 years I have been working with adults with Learning Disability who live independently in a community setting with the Eastbourne Community Support Service. The support was 1:1 with the clients to support them to gain skills in daily living tasks and to give them confidence to live full and active lives and achieve their goals. Fully medication trained.
