Expertise

I have a wealth of knowledge in Dementia / Alzheimer’s and some mental health related issues. I do enjoy working with people with limited communication skills.
I enjoy watching tennis, taking holidays abroad and taking people out in the community so they can feel part of it even if it’s just a coffee.

Experience

I have worked with the local council for 30 years. I started as a cleaner and worked my way up to a senior care officer in a day centre. The clients I cared for had advanced dementia / Alzheimer’s and mental health issues so I have a good knowledge base of this. I have a very good understanding of the pressures that are placed on carers that care for their loved ones. I cared for my father who had Parkinson’s disease; I supported him with daily living skills and out in the community. I would always treat people with dignity and respect as this is how I would like to be treated. Each person is an individual and that’s how they should be supported / assisted. I would always encourage people to maintain their skills as this empowers and makes them have a sense of belonging.

Background

I have completed my level 3 diploma in health and social care. Undertaken many training courses while employed for the county council they include food hygiene, moving & handling, medication level 3, first aid 3 day course, infection control, positivity managing risk and many more. I have managed staff but would not expect then to do anything I am not prepared to do myself. I work to a high standard and take pride in my work.
